Australian Silky Terriers in Tasmania

This is a copy of a newspaper clipping from the Mercury, featuring a photo of my great, great grandfather's masonry business in Macquarie Street, Hobart circa 1860 - 1880.  Right in the bottom front you will see one of the first silky coated terriers, being developed as a breed in Tasmania, with "flop ears".  So this breed has been in my family since those early days - now known and refined into the Australian Silky Terrier.

  1. very interesting, you have such a long family history there in Hobart, that's fascinating (I do genealogy as a hobby). Also cool to see the silky has been a pet in your family since its origins.

  2. Hi Will, Thanks for your comment. Finding out where you come from is so interesting to me. I have always wondered where my likes and dislikes, hobbies and habits came from and they are passed on down generation after generation.
